WHAT IS THE WEARABLE TECH HACKATHON?
The Wearable Tech Hackathon, Tech REMIXed, is a Hybrid event that unfolds over five days. Multi- disciplinary teams formed during the event will collaborate to learn, research and then address wearable solutions in the United States through a pitch competition for solutions they developed. Our goal is to connect teams to tools, resources and supporters that will foster motivated partnerships to bring solutions to life through open innovation after the event.
WHERE IS THE CHALLENGE TAKING PLACE?
Our home campus is the University Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and select satellite sites throughout the United States. Registrants can also participate virtually from anywhere in the world.
July 22-26, 2024 is a hybrid event, meaning we will have physical host sites as well as an online presence. Teams will work together throughout the five day event using tools such as Slack, Discord, Zoom, and Google Drive.
HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED TO COMMIT?
The July event has event time schedules available after registration. This hybrid experience, meaning registrants can choose to participate virtually from anywhere or attend one of our 5* satellite sites, based on availability. The 5-day sprint begins on Monday afternoon (7/22/2024) and ending on Friday (7/26/2024) with an awards ceremony. Since the goal is to rapidly bring meaningful solutions to life, participants should expect to commit either days, evenings or both, and Friday morning/early afternoon to the Challenge. Participants do not need to be available 24/7 for the duration of the event but should communicate their availability to team members. Clearly, the more time invested, the better the outcome.
WHO OWNS THE PRODUCT/SOLUTIONS TEAMS CREATE?
In an effort to expedite the development and implementation of solutions developed in this event, all products and solutions developed in this event will be open source.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE WEEK?
After the week, the best ideas and teams will have the opportunity to co-develop and implement their solution with the help of our event supporters.
WHAT DO WINNING TEAMS GET?
Winning teams may receive monetary prizes, computing resources, organizational support and direct access to key partners to further develop, validate and implement solutions developed.
